4. But in the meantime Sir Geoffry

Northcote seeks the Secretary of State's

agreement in principle with the arguments

of the Committee and the conclusions

recorded in the report, and he explains

that the University authorities will be

fortified by an expression of the Secretary

of State's sympathy and concurrence with

those views and aims.
